While Run8 has AI, it is essentially self-driving trains.
This is part of what makes multiplayer so much fun. It has the tools to build up your world, set up industries (and track deliveries) and so forth. Run8 has no preset scenarios like you would find in MSTS or TSW. It's kind of like the difference between Microsoft Flight Sim and Flight-X. Run8 has a very steep initial learning curve. In fact, if you can through volunteering, or going through an "Engineer for a Day" program and actually run a locomotive, it's even better. In fact, you will find Run8 easier if you can visit an operating railroad museum, observe and ask questions, it will help. 1st off, unlike TSW and other simulations, Run8 is about as close to running the real thing as possible, short of climbing into an actual cab. Most servers do not result in a free-for-all as they have rules that everybody agrees to adhere to.Ģ. Some servers have dispatchers on duty, other servers leave dispatching in "anarchy" (anything goes) mode. As far as dispatching, it's up to whoever is running the server. However, who knows what might happen if you leave your train in motin and unattended? You might fail to stop at a red signal (or as our British friends would say SPAD - Signal Passed At Danger). Yes, you can "fly around" and shift your camera view even while driving a particular train. You'll probably find a lot of your questions already answered, which will save yourself a lot of time.ġ. Thanks to all in advance for any advice you can provide. I read that it is more or less blocked off from any freeware add-ons - is this so, and is it considered a flaw? Does it ever go on sale, like the offerings from Steam?Ĥ. Is it easy to run, like TSW, with preset activities that include AI trains, or does one have to do a lot of work setting up AI trains and the like, as we had to do in MSTS if we wanted to go beyond the presets?ģ.

Does the multiplayer function include the ability to drive one train while interacting with (and seeing) all of the other trains in the session? Is this whole circus under the direction of a dispatcher or dispatchers (a 'la VATSIM or Pilot Edge in the flight sim world)? Or is it a free for all?Ģ. It looks enticing, particularly with multiplayer capability.

Having sated myself with the fantastic visuals of TSW, and coming to comprehend the, shall we say, simple nature of the other aspects of the sim (I speak of physics here, and actual train movement realism) I have been referred to Run 8 as the most operationally realistic of all of the PC based train simulations.
